about

Gill was in the bracket of older folks on tour. I didn’t necessarily feel close to her at the time of writing this piece, but I challenged myself to see things from her perspective. At times, Gill seemed to feel somewhat alienated - I know this song helped many people feel closer to her, and vice versa.

Gill’s piece was among the first to receive any kind of performance. Its softly oscillating theme is somewhat dreamy. The lyrics are an imaginary scene inspired by her deep love of nature. I imagined her standing alone and watching the wind blow through the leaves.

lyrics

Gill stands in a clearing watching the treetops
The light trickles down through frost-bitten leaves
And she watches the leaves as they slowly dance to and fro
She feels a connection to the great unknown
She watches and she smiles, and she walks back home
